Avoiding a DWI
51While there are extensive articles about what a DWI is and how much they can potentially cost there are much fewer articles on how to avoid one altogether. You can find scores of listings for DWI attorneys but by using a few common sense tactics you can avoid a DWI charge altogether. So before your next night out when you may be tempted to drink and drive try these easy to do tactics for avoiding a DWI-
- Plan your evening-To often people end up with DWI because they failed to plan their evening. This means if you intend to go out and drink plan how you will get home before you get to the bar or restaurant. Understand how much you will drink and how it can affect you. It is a proven fact that women with their smaller size generally are affected by alcohol much faster then men. Having a plan can mean a successful evening out versus a night spent at the police station.
- Designate a driver-If you are going out with a group of people the old standby rule applies. Designating a driver means that everyone can have a good time while your sober buddy stands ready to drive the car home. To avoid hard feelings rotate who will be drinking club soda with the party-goers. This way everyone in your group can take a turn being the designated driver. It's what good friends will do for each other.
- Call a taxi or use a car service-You may think that a using a taxi or calling a car service is to expensive but that cost is minimal compared to the costs of a DWI. A DWI or DUI charge can cost in the 10's of thousands of dollars (and that's only if you do not injure anyone else) going into the millions if a fatal accident occurs. Plan ahead to keep taxi fare with you or if you are going with a group split the costs of a car service. When you all arrive home safely you will be glad you did.
