Finding a digital camera that is compatible with your computer is as easy as a little store time and maybe some online research. Due to today's abundance of computer programs, most cameras can be made to be compatible with most computers.
First decide what you want in a digital camera. Are you just going to be shooting lots of casual shots or are you a wedding photographer who needs superior support from his computer and camera. Do you plan on burning the photos to a CD? Do you print them right from the camera or do you want to put them on the computer first and then choose which to print? Will you need a really good organizational system for the photos or will you just keep them in files?
Most computers now come with some type of photo software. Most cameras also come with some type of photo software. What kind of photo software do you want? If you have a friend of family member who uses photo software for editing give them a call. Ask them what they use and why. Do you need to be really computer savvy to use it or is it more of a basic point and click software?
If you don't have someone you can talk to, go online and search for opinion sites that reference photo editing software. Find out what they like and why. What the pros and cons are. I once purchased an expensive Photo Shop editing program that I never use because it's complicated enough that I forget each time what I did before. Instead I end up using the basic Photo Shop program that I received free with the computer. My sister uses the program that came with her camera and loves it!
Next, talk to some salespeople at computer and/or electronic stores. If you already have photo editing software on your computer ask which cameras are compatible with that software. If you know of software that you like and/or want to purchase, ask which cameras are compatible. Be sure to tell the salesperson what kind of operating system your computer uses as an old operating system (Windows 98) may not work with newer software. Ask what software the camera you like comes with. Keep notes, so that you can shop around.
Also, after you've been to some stores and decided on one or some cameras that you like, then go home and look them up online. Check websites like consumer reports that rate reliability, and check websites that allow consumers to add opinions and comments so that you can read about what others have liked or disliked about those cameras. And be sure to check a few websites that sell the camera that you want, including store websites. Sometimes you can buy items cheaper on the store website than you can at the store, or they may offer a better bundle online.
A digital camera is a lot of fun, and your computer is a great way to share your digital camera photos, so enjoy the fact that with a little time, and a computer program or two, you can have a digital camera that will be compatible with your computer.
