Computer jobs will always be in demand and they will help to form other jobs in health care, science, and space technology. Some jobs that are already in existence will open up as the baby boomers begin to retire. Here are a few of the hot jobs of the future according to MSNBC:

Baby Boomer Caregiving

With all of the baby boomers hitting retirement age and older, they are beginning to need medical care and assistant care. If you do not like any of those jobs, you can predict what other jobs will become the hot jobs of the future by studying trends. For example, the DOT COM industry took on a whole new world in the 1990's and early 2000's. The DOT COM trend only lasted a few years, but it paved the way for other new job openings. In order to determine which jobs will be growing in the future, start looking at the small trends right now. By the time the trend reaches the nightly news, you are too late. Technology is one industry you should always keep your eye on to watch for the new jobs that are emerging.

Changes in technology can completely obsolete an existing job, while others drive up the demand for more workers. A few careers technology has made obsolete include the following:

  • Fax Machine Operator - Before e-mail took over, fax machine operators were in high demand. Initially the cost of a fax machine was expensive, so assistants were hired to handle the daily faxes. Once the price of the fax machine dropped, those assistants were let go. Then, the invention of e-mail completely revolutionized the industry and most companies rarely use fax machines.
  • Telephone Operator - In the past telephone operators handled several calls and it was considered one of the premier jobs of the 1950's and 1960's. As technology increased, the need for the telephone operator faded and touch-tone phone systems were introduced. Now companies rely on voice recognition technology instead of the telephone operator.

Hot jobs of the future will all assess the current jobs and decide what changes need to be made. New jobs are always focused on saving time and money. Companies want to find ways to reduce the excess costs of jobs and find a way to perform things quicker, easier, and safely. One industry that is on the rise is the demand for "green jobs". Chevrolet and other car manufacturers have begun re-designing their vehicles to accommodate the environment. These new cars reduce the amount of gas a car consumes and thereby reduces the emissions it produces. Light bulb manufacturers have also begun creating energy friendly light bulbs and lighting fixtures. Conserving energy and "going green" is a high priority for several companies and it will produce new jobs for a lot of people. Jobs that have a repetitive task will be eliminated soon as they are being replaced with automation and robotic machinery.

A few jobs that will be eliminated in the near future include data entry jobs and customer service jobs. Several companies like American Online have transferred their customer service departments to other countries to save on the cost of paying American workers. A large portion of data entry jobs are already being outsourced to other countries. Automation companies are also looking for ways to change their data entry jobs and make them run completely by computer systems. A few ways to prepare for job cuts is to look at the jobs that are currently in demand and decide which jobs need high levels of skills in order to perform them. A job that cannot be replaced with computer automation will be around for several years. Film actors, marketing strategists, and musicians are jobs that need to be performed by humans.

Jobs that require some type of skills trade like a hairstylist, dental hygienist, nurse, doctor, and carpenter will be secure jobs for the future. Though the demand for these types of jobs may fluctuate, your skills will be able to help you find a job somewhere. Hot jobs of the future start with you looking today. Search for a job that requires your physical presence, and it cannot be replaced with machines. If you begin noticing your company outsourcing their services, you may want to start looking at a career change. Outsourcing is one of the first signs that a company is trying to save money and is cutting back with certain programs.

While I read your list, I can't help but wonder why more GREEN careers/jobs are listed. Every generation had something to focus on--after WWII housing, Silicone Valley, Internet. I think now is GREEN.
