How do I turn off the touch pad on my laptop

Unlike a desktop computer, a laptop comes with a small touch pad device that you use in place of the mouse. It works almost exactly like the mouse but instead of controlling the direction of the pointer device with your hand, you can move it around with your finger. It's easy to use and it's great when you are working in a small space. Many people find that the touch pad is actually easier to use than a traditional mouse while others still prefer the mouse.

If you don't like the touch pad, you do have the option of turning it off and hooking up a USB mouse. You can also use keystrokes to guide yourself through the laptop, but they are tedious and sometimes difficult to remember when you want to get from one place to another on your laptop.

Most of the laptops contain touch pads that are sensitive only to the touch of your finger. They detect the heat that comes through your finger. Try touching the touch pad with gloves on or even a coin, it won't work. This level of sensitivity makes it easy to use and most laptop users do not have problems with the touch pad cursor moving around.

When you use the touch pad, you should see the cursor move exactly where you tell it to. The cursor will move at the same rate your finger does so if you are moving your finger all around the touch pad, your cursor should be mimicking the same movements.

If you are a fast typist, you may have issues with the touch pad because your thumbs can quickly brush over it, causing your cursor to move sporadically and you can wind up typing in an area where you did not want to be. Some touch pads are fairly large depending upon the brand of the laptop while others are small and contain a cover so you won't brush over them when you are typing.

Take a look at your touch pad and look for a small button above it. If your touch pad has this button, you can simply click on it to disable it. If your touch pad doesn't have this button, you will need to disable it using a different method. Follow this easy process to disable your touch pad:

1. Move your cursor to the Control Panel and double click to open it.

2. Click on the `Mouse' icon under properties

3. Click on `Device Select' icon

4. Click on `Disable touch pad when USB pointing device is present' to disable your touch pad.

Now you can use an external mouse to move around your cursor on the laptop. If you really hate the touch pad device and you would like to disable it forever, follow these simple steps:

1. Click on Control Panel

2. Click `Mouse' icon under properties

3. Click `Device Select'

4. Click `Disable Device' when you see the touch pad settings

Some users prefer to disable the touch pad when they are in the BIOS settings. You need to click on the F2 button to enter the BIOS settings and then you can scroll through the settings to find the touch pad settings.

If your computer doesn't come with the button to disable your touch pad, the only way to do so it through the above process. The other option you have is to go into the touch pad settings and take a look at the sensitivity level of the touch pad. Sometimes all you need to do is lower the sensitivity and you will stop having issues with the cursor moving around screen when you are typing.
