How the Tom Tom made life easier
By Kentent
One of the technologies that have made a significant impact on people's lives for the better are portable navigation devices, or GPS systems, and among them, one of the best is the Tom Tom.
The Tom Tom was one of the first big names in personal GPS, and it helped frustrated wives and husbands everywhere. Sure, it had a few kinks when it first came out, but let's face it, no more trying to figure out a map, or fighting about whether or not you should ask for directions. No more getting lost in busy traffic, or feeling like you are going to lose it if you make one more wrong turns. The frustration and irritation that comes from not knowing where you are going, especially if you are in a crowded city was eliminated with the invention of the Tom Tom. The following are some ways that the Tom Tom has made life easier.
1. Directions: Okay, it is obvious, but true, the fact that you can get instant directions, from where you are, to wherever you want to go, makes it a life improver. However, one of the huge benefits is that you no longer have to have a complete address. You can have the name of the place you want to go, and it will find it, give you options, and then give you step by step, or drive by drive as the case may be, instructions as you go there. The directions are not on a sheet of paper you have to look at while trying to drive, like you would get from printing off MapQuest, etc. They are voiced as you drive, giving you time to get in the correct lanes, and make no wrong turns along the way. This means if your passengers are talking, or the person in the front passenger seat is dealing with juice boxes, radio stations, kids fighting in the back, etc. you won't miss your turn because they forget to warn you. The direction part is simply wonderful.
2. Timing. One of the next greatest things about the Tom Tom is that it offers you an estimate in the amount of time it will take for you to get where you are going. There are no more guesses, you just have to punch in the destination, and you will know how long to plan to get there, with maybe some leeway for potential traffic. It is always nice to know how long something is going to take you.
3. Updated, hands free, and synced with your life. This is probably the biggest way that the Tom Tom has improved life for those who have it. It has award-winning navigation experience, offers detailed and up-to-date maps, IQ Routes technology, safety features such as advance warning of turns, merges, etc. so you are prepared, and of course, is now designed to be used in sync with your iPhone or iPod touch.
