Introduction:

Boxing is a sport that many people enjoy doing and watching. It is fighting in a controlled manner with rules, regulations, and equipment. Boxing takes great athleticism, and strength.

Difficulty rating:

Moderate to difficult

Steps:

Step one:

Get the right equipment. Lucky for those looking to box, boxing is one of the more inexpensive sports, but you do need to have hand wraps, boxing gloves, etc. So, make sure you do not skimp on the important things.

Step two:

Condition. One part of boxing is conditioning. This is one of the most important training parts of boxing. Conditioning includes strength training, weight management, flexibility training, cardiovascular training, and plyometric training.

You need to do conditioning that helps with your speed and agility. Power is important in boxing, so you have to condition, condition, condition. So, do not just punch the bag a lot, make sure you also run, lift weights, and do all sorts of other training so that you are in great shape and can be a good boxer.

Step three:

Eat right. What you eat is as important in boxing as your gloves are. All of the boxing workouts you do, and fights you are in will be meaningless if you don't have the proper nutritional habits in place. If you eat the right way you will be able to maintain your strength longer. You will be able to withstand more, etc. so, eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Step four:

Get in the ring. If you want to box you have to get in the ring. Of course you can box elsewhere, but it is a sport when you are in a ring, have a referee, etc. So, step in the ring.

Step five:

Know your opponent. It is important when boxing that you have an idea of your opponent's strengths and weaknesses. You will want to make sure that you are aware of if they fight dirty of not, what their signature punches are, etc. That way you can better prepare yourself. You do not play football without watching the other team's films first, so why would you in boxing?

Step six:

Get your stance right. A huge part of how to box is standing the right way. You want to have your feet apart, your knees slightly bent, etc. You want to make sure that your stance means that you will be able to maintain your balance. Your stance helps you to have more power behind your punches, and helps you stay on your feet when you get punched.

Step seven:

Be quick. If you want to box you have to get your hands up, and you have to be in and out fast. Quickness, speed, agility, are all huge in boxing. So, quick jabs. Practice these so when you are in the ring you can get your opponent before they even know you are coming at them.

Step eight:

Use your body, not just your arms. When you punch, you have to get your body behind it so that it is more powerful.

Step nine:

Protect yourself. You have to keep your hands and arms up so that you do not leave your face and torso open for abuse. Protect your body from your opponent's punches with your arms, and fists.

Step ten:

Listen to the ref. If you want to box you have to pay attention to what the referee says. If the ref stops the fight and you keep punching, you will lose the fight. So, pay attention.

Tips and warnings:

Some boxers fight dirty, with low blows, and try to sneak stuff in when the refs can't see, so protect yourself, and know your opponent well enough.

Conditioning so that you can have enough energy and stamina for the entire fight is as important as punching hard.
