Introduction:

Playing card games is a great way to spend an evening in. If you are looking for an inexpensive form of entertainment, card games might be the answer. So, how do you play card games? Try the following.

Difficulty rating:
Easy

Steps:

Step one:

Get a deck of cards. It is hard to play a card game without cards. It is also smart to get a few decks in case you lose a card or two, or in case you want to play with a larger group. Generally if you have more than four people playing a card game you will want more decks. Also, depending on the card game you play, you may need more decks. For example, hand and foot requires one deck of cards per player. So, make sure you have enough cards.

Step two:

Learn the rules. In order to play a card game you need to learn the rules. Most card games have house rules and several variations, but the basics are the same. You can often find rules to card games on the box, online, or just by asking a friend how they play. There are so many different card games you can play, from scum, to poker, and everything in between, so just find one that you and your friends and family will think is fun. Write the rules out of be clear on them when playing so that no one thinks you are playing one way when you are playing another.

Step three:

Find people to play with. It is possible to play card games by yourself, such as solitaire, but it is not nearly as fun as playing someone else. So, find a group of people who would like to play games with you, and you can enjoy playing cards with a group. The nice thing about most card games is you can play with however many people you have, you just have to add in another deck of cards.

Step four:

Have a place to play. There are tables designed specifically for playing cards, such as poker tables, and card tables. It is possible to play on the floor, or the coffee table, but to have a table to play cards on is usually better, and easier. So, determine a place to play, even if it is just the kitchen table.

Step five:

Break out the snacks. What is a card game without some great munchies? So get the chips and dip, the muddy buddy, the veggie tray, or whatever it is you enjoy snacking on.

Step six:

Start to play. Some card games can go on all night, such as scum, so you need to set a time frame for the game. You need to select a dealer, a direction of play (usually clockwise), and then begin playing.

Tips and warnings:

  • People love to cheat at card games, so watch for cheaters.
  • There are plenty of variations to all card games, so even if people say they know how to play it is best to go over the rules before starting play so that there is no confusion.
  • When playing card games it is good to have a flat surface and plenty of elbow room so that no one can cheat by looking at other people's hands either on purpose or not.
