If you are trying to figure out how to undelete Internet Explorer history, the chances are slim that you can actually do this. Even though the chances of successfully undelete Internet Explorer history are slim that doesn't mean that it can't be done. The good news is that there are a few different things that you can try to undelete Internet Explorer history. If one of the methods doesn't work, you can always try another method until either you are successfully at being able to undelete Internet Explorer history or you realize that you simply can't do it.

One of the best things about running a Windows operating system is that most of the modern versions of Windows have a built-in restore feature. This built-in restore feature is the first thing that you should try when trying to undelete Internet Explorer history. The reason you want to try his method first is that it is free to use, and is not very complicated, plus it has a really good chance of working. How the restore feature works is that at specific intervals Windows is going to create a snapshot of your computer, which is going to include registry entries, programs that are currently installed, and your Internet Explorer history. The snapshot that is taking by Windows is saved as a restore point. How the restore point works is you can restore your computer to a specific period, by selecting the restore point that you want to use. The restore point will bring your computer back, programs, and Internet Explorer history to that exact point in time. To restore your files this way you simply need to run Windows Restore. One great thing about the restore feature in Windows is that you can choose which directories you are going to restore, once you restore them you need to restart, Internet Explorer and the information should be there.

If you don't have restore points, created or if the last restore point has a virus or other problems with it, you will want to try a different method. Something else that you can try to undelete Internet Explorer history is see if you have there are any other files ion your system that track your Internet Explorer history. When looking for the files they will be called index.dat files and are usually hidden by the system, so you will have to enable viewing of hidden files and folders when performing a search of your hard drive. The index.dat files are not going to be located in a specific folder, they are most likely scattered in various folders across your hard drive, so you will need to perform a thorough search to find them. While the computer is, performing the search you can go off and do other things because the search can take quite some time, depending on how many files and folders you have on your hard drive.

If you are able to recover the index.dat files, you are going to need to have some type of software that allows you to read them. You can open it in a word processing program, but the files will not make much sense. To get the right style of program you need to go online, search for "index.dat reader," download the program and use it to open the index.dat files.

If none of these methods works, the last option that you have is hire data recovery specialists to see if they can undelete your Internet Explorer files. This method is not recommended because it can get expensive, it is also very time consuming and is not guaranteed to work.
