One of the most beautiful and fascinating places on Earth is Jamaica. The deep blue waters surrounding the island make this place one of the most beautiful in the world. The Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay is where you will land when you fly into Jamaica. If you are traveling to Jamaica, you will need a passport. Depending upon where you are located, it can take 6 months or longer to receive a passport.
Jamaica is a warm climate, so lightweight cotton clothing is going to be your best option. It doesn't get too cold in the winter, usually in the 60's. Depending upon where you plan to dine, some restaurants do require formal dress which means a dress for ladies and a nice jacket and tie for men. The sun is always shining in Jamaica so you need plenty of sunblock. The best time to travel to Jamaica is during the off-season so you can avoid the crowds. October-February tend to be the best hotel rates and you can get into almost any restaurant.
Horseback Riding
One of the fun things to do in this tropical paradise is to go horseback riding. Chukka Cove is where you can find wonderful horseback riding stations. Usually the rides will take you through the mountains and the Farm Villages found in Jamaica. This is a great experience for anyone that would love to take in more of the wonders of this beautiful island. The horseback riding tour will also take you into the Caribbean sea where the horses will swim through the water. It will take about 3 hours for the entire horseback riding tour and it costs about $60.
Bob Marley's Birthplace
Head over to Nine Mile at St. Anne and tour the village where Bob Marley was born. You can visit the grave of Bob Marley and even tour through his home and touch the bed that he slept on. Even if you aren't a big fan of Bob Marley, this is a must-see as he is the equivalent to Elvis in the United States. While on the tour, you may be lucky enough to meet some of Marley's relatives. You also get the chance to stand on "Mount Zion Rock". This is where Bob Marley used to mediate. The tour of Marley's home is $15.
Blue Lagoon
The beautiful Blue Lagoon is located close to Falmouth. You will take a nighttime boat ride where you can see glowing jelly fish and other fish. The water literally illuminates when you go for a nighttime snorkel. The cost of the Blue Lagoon boat ride and snorkel is about $15. If you want to snorkel during the daytime it will be about $10. You can snorkel with some of the fish.
Dunns River Falls
For a fun day hike, head to Dunns River Falls. This challenging hike is a lot of fun because you will need to form a human chain with about 20 other people to help you get up to the falls because it is very slippery. You can store some of your belongings in the lockers located on site.
River Rafting
A lot of fun for the family is to head for a river rafting tour. You can do the rafting tour if you have older kids that know how to swim. The Martha Brea river rafting tour is a 30 foot bamboo river raft. You can only fit about 2 people in the boat because there is a tour guide in the boat with you. The river rafting tour will take about 2 hours and you can stop along the way to swim and even stop off for a tasty drink on the way.
