New York City is one of the most popular tourist destinations. From popular sites like the Statue of Liberty to Ground Zero and Yankee Stadium, there are a number of things to see in New York. One thing tourists often do poorly is that they end up wasting most of their vacation standing in like waiting to get on a tour to the Empire State Building or other popular sites. Here are some tips to help you get started on your vacation planning to New York City:

The Guggenheim Museum
This majestic building was created by Frank Lloyd Wright. This museum continues to be one of the most popular destinations in New York City. To try and avoid the high crowds, head to the Guggenheim Museum on a Tuesday versus a Monday. Some of the most famous art pieces in the world are housed here.

Staten Island Ferry
No matter what you do in New York City, you have to go on the Staten Island Ferry. This ferry will take you over to Staten Island, where you can participate in some of the fun carnivals along with exploring the island and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The Staten Island Ferry is free and it runs every 15-20 minutes. The hours of operation are from 6am to 8pm. Check SIFerry.com to find out more information about the ferry schedules.

Times Square
If you have ever watched the ball drop on New Year's Eve, you have seen the crowds that gather in Times Square. Many musicians will close down Times Square and hold impromptu concerts so you might get lucky enough to see one. Times Square is full of millions of people walking around from stores to businesses and hot dog vendors. It is crowded so make sure you protect your wallet and other belongings you are traveling with. The Times Square visitors center is where you get tickets to popular shows along with some hotel recommendations and other attractions to see.

Central Park
Perhaps one of the most well-known attractions of New York City is Central Park. Central Park is absolutely breathtaking. If you don't have a chance to at least walk through it, try to get a hotel room that overlooks it, you won't regret it. Every Friday and Saturday there are photo walkabouts in Greenwich Village. You will be able to go on a nice walking tour and take some great shots of Central Park. The tour is about 3 hours and it costs $20.

Statue of Liberty
Perhaps one of the best symbols of freedom to the United States is the Statue of Liberty. A short boat ride will take you out to the Statue of Liberty where you are free to walk around the grounds and take as many pictures as you like. In the past people were able to climb up to the top of the Statue of Liberty but recently the statue has been closed to tourists.

Broadway
One of the most recognizable things of New York City is Broadway. The musicals are perhaps one of the most famous in the world. If you want to see some celebrities, Broadway is one of the places where you may get lucky enough to see one. To get tickets to Broadway you need to visit BroadwayBox.com.

Ground Zero
Absolutely no one will forget Ground Zero and this sacred area is now a big part of the city. Make time to walk the grounds, pay your respects, and read the platforms. This area has a quiet peace to it now and you will not regret spending time here.
